Save Dr Who and protest against the BBC cuts

campaigns | BBC |

It is Dr Who's 52nd birthday and the Federation of Entertainment Unions is calling on all Dr Who fans - staff, freelancers, friends, children and general public - to gather outside the BBC's New Broadcasting House in Langham Place, London W1A 1AA, to oppose the threat of 20 per cent government cuts to a corporation that has brought us such fantastic shows such as Dr Who since 1922. Be there on Monday 23 November 2015, from 12.30 to 13.30.

Guest speakers include Dr Who cast members:

  • Sophie Aldred (Ace)
  • Bertie Carvel  (The Lazarus Experiment)
  • Chris Jury (The Greatest Show In the Galaxy)

The shoddy backroom deal that management struck with Osborne this year, saddling the BBC with delivering the government's over-75s welfare policies at a cost of £650m+, will bring the greatest independent broadcaster to its knees. This represents a 20 per cent  cut across the board. Entire services will have to be cut, programmes dumped, free speech undermined and thousands of jobs lost. The BBC will be unrecognisable in less than 10 years.

The BBC may not be perfect but it is the cornerstone of British culture and democracy and so much more than simply a supplier of entertainment as a commodity. It is envied across the world as a publicly-owned institution, distanced by the licence fee from both direct political interference and undue commercial influence.

Together we must save it!

  • The BBC @ 40p per day costs less than any other provider.
  • The BBC delivers incredible value for money across TV, radio & World Service.
  • The BBC is watched by 96 per cent of the UK population for an average of 19 hours pw.
  • The BBC is essential to Britain's thriving creative industries.

WE NEED YOU TO TURN OUT IN FORCE AT LUNCHTIME!

Anyone who can come in a Dr Who costume will be especially welcome!
