Leveson - A Chance for Change?...

podcasts |

The Leveson Inquiry offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform the media, root and branch. Nicholas Jones asks if we can seize it.

There has never been any doubt on the part of the CPBF that there needs to be radical change in the rules governing media ownership, a new independent press regulator to replace the PCC which, unlike the Press Complaints Commission, has the respect of journalists and the public, and the effective enforcement of journalistic ethics.

In an attempt to set out the tasks ahead once Lord Justice Leveson begins taking evidence into media ownership and press behaviour, former BBC political correspondent, Nicholas Jones, chairs a discussion exploring the priorities for the CPBF and other like minded campaigners for media freedom.

Joy JohnsonHe talks to three experts and campaigners: the CPBF national organiser, Barry White; professor of journalism at City and Bedord Universities, Ivor Gaber; and Joy Johnson, former TV producer and media director for both the Labour Party and London mayor, Ken Livingstone, and now a visiting university lecturer in journalism.
