for diverse, democratic and accountable media

Community Media Association's Annual Festival, Leeds, 15 June 2002

events |
You are invited to attend the Community Media Association's Annual Festival to be held on Saturday 15 June 2002 in Leeds at the Hotel Metropole in the city centre. The Summer Festival 2002 will feature debate and discussion on all the issues effecting the community media sector.

Over the last 6 months there have been some notable developments. Fifteen community radio groups have been awarded year-long "access radio" licences as part of the Radio Authority's pilot scheme. Currently, four stations are broadcasting within the scheme with others due to follow shortly. Community television is still progressing nationally and more organisations across the country are setting up and experimenting with broadcasting online. With the Government's plans to publish the draft Communications Bill at the end of April, we expect the next 12 months to be a determining period in the development of community media. We are expecting many of the key individuals in community media to attend the Festival. This event looks towards the future, celebrates the range and diversity in community media and will feature National Speakers, Examples of Best Practice, Training, Debate and much more...
