for diverse, democratic and accountable media

'The press: Invisible Political Actors?'

events |

The New Politics Network is an independent political and campaigning think tank, concentrating on democratic renewal and popular participation in politics.
With David Walker and Nicholas Jones Hosted and chaired by Dr Tony Wright MP Tuesday 7 December, 11am-12pm The Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House

Following the publication of the New Politics Network's new pamphlet Invisible Political Actors: the press as agents of anti-politics, we will be holding a discussion with the authors next month. David Walker (editor of the Guardian Public) and Nicholas Jones (former BBC journalist), both respected journalists, offer two different but complementary essays on the relationship between the media and political parties, and in particular the present Labour Government. Neither are without their criticisms of political spin, but both argue against the prevailing view that the government is itself entirely to blame for any deterioration in the relationship between politicians, the media and the general public. We are grateful to Dr Tony Wright MP who has kindly agreed to host and chair this event, which we are hopeful will prove to be both lively and informative. If you are able to come, please inform Alex Runswick on 0207 278 4443 or . The meeting is open to all.
