James Miller & Saira Shah in GazaRenowned filmmaker James Miller was shot dead by an Israeli soldier in the Gaza Strip during the making of this brilliant and disturbing film.

He and his close friend, reporter Saira Shah, had set out to follow up the success of their award-winning films Unholy War and Beneath the Veil with an unflinching look at the lives of three children growing up in a warren of bullet-riddled streets.

Deciding that the material that Miller shot was too powerful for the film to be abandoned, Shah set about piecing together the stories Miller ’s camera had captured. The result is an astonishing portrait of a world in which children are taught death is the greatest glory of all, and the tale of how the film-maker himself fell victim to the conflict he was covering. Death in Gaza is the story he gave his life to tell. "James and I set out to make a film on the culture of violence in Gaza. The aim was, below politics, to look on human beings, on the people who get sucked in the spiral of violence." - Saira Shah With special thanks to Channel 4 for permission to show this film
