The Project for a New American Century (the Washington think-tank whose founders include Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz) says that in order to ensure the ‘greatness and security of the USA ’ and to ‘constrain a Chinese challenge to American regional leadership ’ it is necessary to establish a permanent American military presence in South East Asia.

President Bush has declared South-East Asia the second front in the war against terror. US plans to remilitarise the region are well under way. This public meeting has been called to discuss the implications of US foreign policy for human rights activists, democracy movements, political prisoners and press freedom in Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia.
